Privacy Policy
Last updated 20 August 2026
Rigsmith is a small, independent product, and this policy is written to be read rather than skimmed past. The short version: we store the minimum needed to sell you a licence and keep it working, and your artwork never reaches our servers.
What we never see
Your artwork, comps and project files stay on your machine. Rigging runs locally inside After Effects. We have no upload, no cloud rendering, and no telemetry of what you make.
If you connect your own Claude login for Smart Rig, frames of your composition go from your computer directly to Anthropic under your own subscription, governed by your agreement with them. That traffic does not pass through us, and we never receive a copy.
We also never see your card details. Payment is handled entirely by our payment processor on their own pages; we receive only a confirmation and the identifiers listed below.
What we do collect
When you buy a licence
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To send your licence key and answer support |
| Plan and seat count | To issue the right licence |
| Payment identifiers from our payment processor | To match a refund or dispute back to the right licence |
When you activate a device
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| A device fingerprint, stored as a SHA-256 hash | To enforce the device limit without storing what it was made from |
A device label — your computer name and OS user name, e.g. DESKTOP-ABC / alice | So you can tell your own machines apart when releasing a seat |
| First-seen and last-seen timestamps | To show which seats are in use |
When you start a free trial
A device fingerprint and a coarsened form of your IP address — a network prefix such as an IPv6
/64, never the full address. This exists only to stop one person minting unlimited trials.
When you contact us
Your email address, subject and message, plus the app version, operating system and licence key if you wrote from inside the panel, and the same coarsened IP prefix for rate limiting. This is so we can reproduce your problem instead of asking you five questions first.
Who else handles it
We rely on a small number of established service providers to run the business. Each one receives only what it needs for its role, and nothing more:
| Role | What that means |
|---|---|
| Payments | A PCI-compliant payment processor collects your payment on its own pages. Card details never reach us. |
| Database and hosting | Your licence record and this website are hosted in the United States. |
| Email delivery | Sends your licence key, and our replies when you write to us. |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Only if you connect it — under your own subscription, directly from your machine. We are not in the middle. |
If you would like to know exactly which providers we use, email support@rigsmith.net and we will tell you.
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or send marketing email you did not ask for.
This website
rigsmith.net sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Nothing about your visit is stored or profiled. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google to fetch them.
How long we keep it
Licence records are kept for as long as the licence exists, plus the period we are required to retain transaction records for tax and accounting. Support messages are kept while the conversation is useful and deleted when it is not. Trial abuse-prevention records are short-lived.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. If you are in the UK, EU or another region with equivalent law, you also have the right to object to processing, to request a portable copy, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
Email support@rigsmith.net and we will respond within 30 days. Note that deleting your licence record means the licence stops working — we will confirm before doing that.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects existing customers, say so by email.
